A tea latte is a very milky tea made with hot steamed or frothed milk and a shot of strongly brewed tea. Alternatively, the tea can be infused directly in the milk.

What’s the Difference Between Milk Tea and Tea Latte?

Both milk tea and tea lattes are made with milk and can served hot or cold/iced. The difference is that a tea latte is made with steamed or frothy milk and milk tea is not. Milk tea is often made with sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk. Thai iced tea and bubble milk teas are both examples of milk tea.

How do you Froth Milk for a Latte?

There are many ways to steam or froth milk for a tea latte. If you have a fancy milk steamer at home then go ahead and use that to make a tea latte like a pro. You can alternatively use a budget friendly handheld milk frother.

How to Make a Blueberry & Rose Black Tea Latte

Making these blueberry and rose tea lattes couldn’t be simpler. Firstly, add the milk, blueberries and agave to a blender and whizz up until everything is well combined. Next, brew the tea in freshly boiled water and then finally warm the blueberry milk, froth it up a little and add to the tea. Simply perfect!

You can use fresh or frozen blueberries. To keep it vegan, use agave. Alternatively, maple syrup can be used, however, the taste of agave it stronger than that of agave. If you aren’t strictly vegan, honey can be used.

To combine the milk and blueberries, I used a stand blender, however an immersion blender can be used. Both types of blenders will create some latte like bubbles. However, I like to use a mini milk frother to create even more bubbly-ness!

How to Make a Blueberry and Rose Tea Latte

INGREDIENTS (Serves 1)

  • 1 Heaped Teaspoon of Black Tea or 1 Tea Bag

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Rose Petals

  • 1 Tablespoon of Blueberries (Fresh or Frozen)

  • 1 Cup (8fl oz) of Almond Milk (or Milk of Choice)

  • 1 Tablespoon of Agave - Optional

METHOD

  • Firstly, add the milk, agave and blueberries to a blender and whizz up so all of the ingredients are well combined.

  • Add the black tea and rose petals to a small jug or cup and add 1/4 cup (2fl oz) of freshly boiled water. Allow the leaves to steep for around 5 minutes before removing the leaves using a fine mesh strainer.

  • Warm through the milk and blueberry mixture either in the microwave or on the hob.

  • Lots of bubbles should have formed already from the blender, however, it’s always great to add more bubbly-ness using a hand held milk frother.

  • Pour the tea concentrate into your cup and top up with the blueberry milk.

  • Add a sprinkle of rose petals for a touch of luxury and enjoy :)
